Charity Event Features Heartwarming Meeting between Local Lifesaving Bone Marrow Donor and Recipient

ATLANTA, GA – (November 8, 2017) – On Monday, November 6, more than 250 guests attended Coregistics’ Fourth Annual Gears & Greens Charity Golf Tournament and Ladies Luncheon & Fashion Show at Marietta Country Club, raising more than $100,000 for the largest marrow registry in the world—Be the Match.

This annual event, hosted by Coregistics—the industry’s leading packaging-centric supply chain solutions company based in Kennesaw, Ga.— is the most successful event of its kind across the nation, according to Joy King, Executive Director Be The Match Foundation. She added, “We are beyond grateful to Eric and Deborah Wilhelm, the entire Coregistics team and all of their event sponsors for coming together and helping us advance our lifesaving mission at Be The Match.”

Coregistics founder and CEO Eric Wilhelm and his wife Deborah were inspired to start this charity event four years ago. Since its inception, the event has raised nearly half a million dollars.

“Thanks to our hardworking employees and generosity of our customers and industry partners, this year’s event was our most successful one yet,” said Eric Wilhelm. “Giving back to the communities where we live and work is at the heart of everything we do here at Coregistics. We are so proud to have raised nearly a half million dollars over the past few years for such a worthwhile cause as Be The Match. Together, we are truly making a difference and saving lives.”

As part of the charity event, Be The Match arranged for a heartwarming meeting between a lifesaving donor, 31-year-old Jennifer Shannon from Gainesville, Ga. and recipient, 54-year-old Bobbie Jean Yonker from Dinosaur, Co.

Through Shannon’s selfless actions, she helped save the life of Yonker—a stranger—by being a bone marrow donor with the ‘Be the Match’ donation program. “I just couldn’t imagine having the chance to save a life and saying no!” said Shannon, who joined the Be The Match registry during her sophomore year at Georgia College & State University. Ten years after joining, Shannon was surprised when she got the call for help, but jumped at the opportunity.

“I’m so grateful for this young lady,” added Yonker, a 54-year-old wife and mom of two sons from Dinosaur, CO who was suffering from extreme fatigue and headaches when her blood work revealed these symptoms were caused by acute myeloid leukemia. Thankfully, Jennifer Shannon provided the life-saving transplant she needed. “I received her donation in time, and I know in my heart that her generosity is the only reason I am now able to grow old with my husband. She saved my life! Without her, I would be dead,” added Yonkers.

Brickforce Staffing was this year’s title sponsor of the event. For the fourth year in a row, fab’rik West Cobb generously provided all the clothing and models for the fashion show portion of the event.

Every day, thousands of people across the U.S., including hundreds in the greater Atlanta area, are in need of lifesaving bone marrow donations. Be the Match Foundation helps match patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases with compatible donors. To learn more about the cure, visit BeTheMatch.org
